I think it's a nice photo and a cool dog. Maybe a better background would have been better, but I understand you were just taking advantage of the opportunity.
Woah! You're dog is either really trained or you are dangling a t bone. The life of my fiance and I revolves around work and our dog so the only pictures I get to take are at Dog parks, walking around house, and when all three of us go for walks. Not enough hours in a day!
I've yet to get a dog to sit like that without losing interest. Usually I can get the roudy dogs to sit and "smile for the camera" but this is great.
Even with minor fixes that could happen to this picture I recommend not changing a thing! Maybe add some cool effects to the background or something...
Thanks for all the cc, I am new to this and still using a point and shoot, a Fuji S3000. I am buying a Nikon D40 or D60(must likely the 40)next month.
As for the dog, Chief is approx 9 years old we rescued him 5 years ago, he is a Rhodesian Ridgeback / Bull Mastiff mix. He loves the camera, I take shots of him all the time.
As of this point I do not do anything to my shots, as you see them, is how they were taken. I hope to get some photo software asap and learn some editing.
Any and all tips, pointers etc are welcomed, thanks again.
Love it! Two think I did notice though.. his nose seems to be in focus, but his eyes are not (correct me if I'm wrong..) and of course the stuff in the background, like boats and what not. Without that, the image would be gorgeous. man how I wish I could get my (Photoshop) hands on it.
Are you aware of the rule of thirds? That might give you a better look next time. Very well done photo otherwise though. Check out http://www.picturecorrect.com/ for beginner and somewhat advanced techniques and tips. Sorry to sound like an ad but it definatly helped me a lot.
