Can others edit my Photos
Photos OK to edit
Ok... I just got some strobes and attached are two of the pictures we took of my daughter. I'm frustrated about white balance. I'm using iPhoto to do the editing. The pictures with the purple hue are the white balance right from the camera and the second are the result of using iPhoto's white balance correction. The second effort looked good until I printed them and my the skin tone looked greenish. I realize these are a little overexposed also.

Thanks for any thoughts you might have. How do you evaluate and correct white balance so that that skin tones look right?

Make sure you save it in sRGB colorspace.

When you save your photo as JPEG it should have an option what colorspace the printer will use (adobe RGB, sRGB, CYMK).

Perfect. Thanks. I will make sure we are saving them that way.

try shooting in raw if your not already. you can control final white balance in post production.

Why do you recommend sRGB vs adobe?

Photo printers can only print so many colors. Adobe RGB has more colors than sRGB. If you have it on Adobe RGB and print it, more than likely it will be OK.... but sometimes the color will be different a tad.

I always set a manual/custom white balance against a grey card before I shoot with lights. Always.

BUT...those are Million Dollar Expressions and are just amazing colors and all!

 +1.

And every time you move the lights, you need to shoot another custom white balance.

The best gray card available today is from Digital Photography - RawWorkflow.com - WhiBal Certified Gray Card for White Balance.

For portraiture I also use X-Rite: Get exactly the color you need, every time, anywhere in the world..

I have a white balance lense cap that you shoot through, but only for my kit lens. Would that work ok to set custom white balance and then switch to the 50mm 1.8?
