I finally got out and got some night pics of gators. They're handheld so the ISO is real high. Focusing was difficult. Maybe I'll have better luck with a tripod and ISO 100/200 next time.

Thanks, everyone! No swimmers, no more anyway. (they all got eaten, lol!) The light source was made for this kind of thing, it's a headlamp type "spot-light". It's nothing like a bright flash light or other headlamps that you normally see, it has a super focused beam that can easily light up a bird in a tree 50 yards away or more. they claim the beam can reach out up to 800 meters. of course it would be dim at that point. I bought it specifically for night photography.

It's an Odear headlamp. It's LED and rechargeable and has good battery life for how powerful it is. Amazon carries it in case anyone is interested.
034 (2).JPG the lens itself is 4" across so it's rather large but not too uncomfortable. It's worth it for what it does.
