It's not what I'll usually upload here, but I really like this one. We had a party night and I only had a point and shoot. I think it tells a story, what do you think..?

Might be a bit unrealistic to post a picture of this manner (obviously either the site of a wild night or a re-creation of a wild night), with the title you chose, make a comment about the pic "telling a story" and then expect everyone to legitimately critique a point and shoot snapshot without making comments about the "the story" you previously mentioned?

In response to your OP, I guess, yes, it tells a story...other than that I'm not sure what you're looking for here...just my humble, non lifestyle focused opinion.

Well, the usual bromides we trot out to critique photos, like "use the rule of thirds" or "straighten the horizon" or "watch the background", etc., etc., seems hard to apply to this situation. Not sure what we can tell you from a photographic perspective that would allow you to do better snaps at the next party. As for "your" lifestyle, I have no idea if you were a participant or an observer, so the image doesn't tell me much about "your" lifestyle. You asked us "What do you think" and my reaction would be "what do you want us to think?"

Maybe we see photography from different perspectives then. Sunsets, birds and flowers are pretty, but that's not where photography ends. When I take a picture I want to convey emotion and make the observer feel something.
If looking at that image made you feel something (any emotion, we all look at things from different prespectives), then for me it served it's purpose. If looking at it made you build a story in your mind for what happened prior to releasing the shutter, then it was worth the release.

#Michael, as far as it goes for only using my point and shoot, looking at the picture again I don't think it would have made any difference having my om-d.

I don't think we do... Because I agree. My comments were directed at the comments regarding your lifestyle. You asked for people's thoughts, they responded with their version of the story surrounding your photos, etc. And you didn't approve... Just didn't make sense to me, that's all.

Maybe I was to fast to defend myself. Some of the comments felt more as a critic on me rather than on the picture. I might have misinterpreted them, I apologize if I did.

Anyways.. I like the photo. It's fun, funny, and interesting. I think it makes people want to tell jokes that could possibly be misinterpreted as commentary on someone's lifestyle when really they are just humor inspired by a humorous image as this thread has shown

The focus is good. I enjoy the depth of field blurring the contents of the table whether intentional or not.

I can't decide whether the stain by his head adds or detracts from the image.. Anyone else on the fence about that as well?

Yes reading the comments again I get it now. Language barrier, sorry..! I didn't really play with focus/DOF it was a quick snap with the point and shoot. What I did was more amping up the the exposure and using vignetting more heavily than I'll usually would to try and get some sort of a rockstar/paparazzi look to the image.

When it comes to the stain I like it but I guess I'm biased, would love to here what others think.

As a photo? I like the stain, too. It does look a bit like his brains are leaking out but that obviously isn't the case so I take it as either a) co-incidence or b) good planning. Another thing I like is the fact that the subject looks like a big, rough, hard drinking, manly type but is wearing a leopard print onesie! Not a bad shot for a quick snap with a point and shoot.
