Nikon 135 f2 DC and D800 -- Good Combo?

Yeah, I know what you mean. The two-ring 80-200 is not really "all that" wide-open on these newer cameras with higher and higher MP counts; that's why both Nikon and Canon have introduced ALL-NEW 70-200 f/2.8 lenses, and new 70-200 f/4 lenses, and why they've both revamped their pro wide zoom lens lines with newer, optically better lenses. The 70-200 VR has corners that are not up to snuff at landscape distances on high-MP FX bodies; that is the ONLY reason I bought the 80-200 AF-S this late spring, for better FX performance, which it brings, over the VR-1.

I dunno...a lot of lenses are just not that good wide-open, compared to how awesome they are at f/4.5 or f/4.8 or f/5 or f/5.6. So...I dunno...are the heavy, high-speed lenses really all that necessary? I've been wondering about the Tamron 70-200 VC as maybe a VR-II alternate option for me. Everything in life is a tradeoff, one quality for another.

I hear the 70-200 VC tamron is pretty nice. :P

I don't think it can quite match the bokeh quality/transition of the nikon, but it's damn nice in all other regards.

I'll tell you what though: I'd love to have the focus lock button you mention.

I'm not sure I follow with the need for it on lenses; why not use the AF-L button?
