Nikon D3100 LCD protection

I was planning on putting a invisible shield on my D3100 for LCD protection, but I keep seeing people putting a plastic clip on protector instead. Is one better than the other?

I'm not sure the D3100 includes a plastic clip for LCD protection, that may be an accessory reserved for higher end models. What I used to do for my D40 is order custom-sized screen protectors (the type that you'd typically use for a smartphone).

The first thing that gets tossed when I get a new body is that horrible, cheap piece of plastic. If you didn't get one, consider yourself lucky. It's annoying, it scratches easily, it's a moisture trap and generally a PIA. DON'T waste your money on an Invsishield... just head down to Staples, or whatever big office store is closest and root through their discount bin. You're sure to find a package of custom-made screen protectors from some discontinued PDA, smart-phone or other product for a fraction of it's original cost, and that, and two minutes with a pair of scissors will get you a nice custom protector. That said, the screen is mineral glass, and pretty darn hard to damage.

Ehhh...I'm like tirediron...I ditch the plastic screen annoyer thing immediately. Never use ANYTHING on my LCD's. I have never scratched one either. But like he said, if you absolutely must put plastic covers on your couch and look like a dork, then Office Muck, or Stumbles, or Office Catacombs is the place to find PDA film.

I personally can't stand "add-on" screen protectors of any kind. Even when put on "professionally", it seems there's always a bubble or piece of grit or dust or something under there, they get all scratched up in no time, and that stuff just plain bugs me. Plus, they cost WAY too much for a little piece of plastic, IMHO.

The good news is that Camera LCDs have a screen protector already on them protecting the actual screen underneath, and it can be easily replaced with another. I recently replaced a shattered one on my 5DMKII. It cost me a total of $21 from eBay and now it's like new again. You can see the step by step here:

I agree with the posts above. Don't worry about it.

I've had DSLR cameras for many years and I've never used any type of screen protector. The screens (built in cover) might have tiny scratches...but nothing that I ever notice. And if they do get damaged (I've personally never seen it happen), you can replace them for something like $20.
