Nikon or Canon??

Nikon because I owned Nikon! Hahaha, that is not a true statement entirely. Yes I owned Nikon but Cannon is just as good. I don't agree a particular brand is better than another as long as you are paying for a certain price range. Otherwise, that brand which product is inferior would be out of business long time ago.

I would suggest you buy one with a built in motor. The 3K and 5k series do not come with built in motor if I am not wrong. Body is just one of your investment. Lenses are going to be the bigger investment. Without built in motor, you choices of lens is limited and going to cost more later.

Of course if you intend to just work around some basic lenses and stay happy, then the 3100 will work just fine. Most importantly, get started soon and shoot as many shots as possible. Theory is just for reading, the real action is when you go out there to shoot!
