Taken from our balcony. I left in the middle of Lord of the Rings to take this one, so I hope it was worth it :) Anyway, halfway through my exposures I noticed I was shooting sJPEG. I changed it to RAW, I thought, and continued to shoot. However, when I loaded them into IrfanView, I only have the sJPEGs. I'm befuddled to say the least. Perhaps I turned the camera off and on or something and it changed.. Ahh, well.

I had to shoot these semi hand held. I supported my arms on the rail(?). I don't own a tripod, but I'm planning on buying one the coming weeks. I had to stop the lens up full open and shoot at max ISO.

Shot with EOS 40D and 50mm f/1.8II
f/1.8
ISO-3200 (H)
1/6th

This is the best of the bunch, imo. Those lights in the distant right is a small "town", in lack of a better word. Not really a town, either, just a place where some people live. Minimal with shops, there. Norwegian word "tettstad/tettsted".

Thanks for watching and commenting!

I've noticed some awful burn spots around the moon. Edited again, added a little contrast in curves and a little more foreground to balance it. Watchathink?

Yeah, well, it is over exposed, and it had a thin layer of clouds covering it :P but it did look like that

Amy tips on how to get a well-exposed image without blowing the moon?

I'll save evvveryone else the trouble of saying it, a quick search through this forum in particular with the search term "moon" will yield you several excellent threads on shooting the moon.

You have to merge two shots.

One focused and metered for the foreground, one focused and metered for the moon (which is lit by the sun).

In your picture, the moon is just blown plain and simple. I know there were clouds in front, but you would still have detail.
