Hi i am not a regular member to this site but my wife is. I was wanting to buy her a d7000 for christmas and was checking out ebay and saw the big package deals with a couple lenses. Are these packages any good or are there something wrong with the lenses or are the way over priced. I am a complete illiterate when it comes to photography, so any info would be great.

Thanks John

Depends, there are both deals and scams... if you have more details on the lenses that would help.

Might be best to find a body only and let her pick out the lens based on what she wants to shoot, unless you know that already - then we can help a little.

Figured as much... stay away from those 'deals'.

Look at sites like adorama.com and beachcamera.com

$1199 is about as good as you'll find for the body alone, from a reputable dealer.

Yea, that is an import. Gray market. Does not carry US Nikon warranty.

Buy from a box store. Right now there will be virtually no difference in price since they are in such high demand.

The D7000 is FANTASTIC but can be quirky. I would highly recommend buying from a place that will stand behind it and offer a face to face return.

Best buy has 2 year no interest financing, and returns through Jan 31st right now. (I am in no way affiliated with Best Buy.)

Just sayin'.

I'm also not affiliated with BB, but I bought my D7000 kit for $1435 out the door there with a 12% coupon(+$30 back in rewards certificates).

BB for me ends up cheaper than alot of places online cause of their rewards program + coupons.

I advise you to go online and check stock at every store within your driving range and call them to have it hold it for you. This was the only way I was gonna get the camera anytime soon.

That's what I did as well, I find it works out good if you are on that program and use the coupons.

Good luck finding one, they're sold out everywhere.

If she doesn't have her heart set on a d7000, you might want to consider a d90, they're half the price ($750 is a good deal on a d90).

The d90 has very similar quality to the d7000. It's not quite as good, but you get more for your $$. The only things you sacrifice are: 720p video instead of 1080p, a TINY amount of resolution, slightly worse low light performance, and plastic construction instead of metal.
