Noob question regarding body and lens

At this point in your hobby, you're not going to notice any difference. A good body plus an 18-55 IS kit lens would be more than enough to learn with. The 18-55 IS is actually a pretty decent lens. If you limit yourself to a body and only a 50mm, you're going to be, well, limited. My suggestion to newbies is always to learn with body and kit lens. The more you shoot and learn, the more you'll figure out which lenses makes sense for you to own.

sounds good to me.
I think you have convinced me to just start with a kit setup regardless of model i choose. get comfortable with it, then look for some deals on some lenses i would find useful.
I found out today a store near me is selling the Nikon D5000 kit with lens for 599.99, i also have a 12% off coupon making it around 560 after taxes.
CNET compared the D5000 to the T2i currently at 799.99 for the kit.
My question is....are these both similar as CNET makes an assumption too? Any noticeable differences to a beginning photographer, if not im thinking saving almost 300 dollars and going the D5000 route may be the way to get this party started

The only niggle about the D5000 is I'm pretty sure it's one of the bodies without an AF motor, so some lenses you might want down the road that wont AF on it because they don't have focus motors built in either. Those lenses can still be used as manual focus, tho. All Canon lenses will AF on all Canon Rebel bodies.

sub- thx for the info!

i was patient and Canon got the T2i refurbished kit package (canon T2i with 18-55 lens, rebel gadget bag, 2GB card) back in stock just before their supersale ended tomorrow.

VERY excited since i paid under 600 for all of it.

I will get comfortable with the kit lens and camera then look at adding on down the road.
