Hello to all on this site:hug:: This is my first post so please be gentle with me.....Although I have been "Into" photography for nearly 30 years I have just bought 2 35 mm SLR's after a 20 year break. I have been using Canon digital Powershot A550 for a year or so and was fairly happy with the results, but was itching to get back to the flexiblity of SLR cameras. Having checked out all the Digital SLR;s availiable , I decided that I am not related to the Sultan of Brunei or play up front for Manchester United so I cant afford to go down that road.........So I decided to bite the bullet and take a step back in time and purchase a good ole Canon A1 !! this cost me a grand total of 40 English pounds with a bog standard 50 mm f/1.8 lens. Cant grumble at that thought I. Having set my heart on taking landscapes..went looking for some slow 25-50 ASA film..and I am still looking :grumpy: none of the local high st shops sell it or can point me in the right direction either??? So I have come to the conclusion that A) nobody wants this anymore ...or B) The faster 100-200 ASA films of today are better than they were...maybe someone on here will put me at ease. I also managed to buy a Canon EOS 650 body on Ebay for £2.......Hope it works when I put a lens on it lol:headbang:. Thanks in advance to anyone who is still with me so far...Happy snappin'..........Pete (Metalhead)
P.S I am in the UK if this is relevant

What were you shooting these 30 years?

Nothing..thats the trouble, As I said I had a break.....just getting back into it...cheers

Things have changed from 30 years ago! We are now doing 3d photographs for our clients and give them holographic images. You're very far behind us! You do not need SLR cameras anymore, you can pull it all off with an iPhone 4.0 and a 10-800mm lens

Haha scary part is this might not be too far into the future.

You should have posted this in the Film Discussion area of the forum. Oh wait I forgot Beginners forum is the dumping ground for everything.

Funny,I bought digital because I couldn't afford film. :raisedbrow: Every picture I take costs less than the last.

Really insightful replies you all gave. I'm sure that really helps.

B&H photo still carry a wide selection of roll film, including some low ASA selections, in various formats. Don't know about their shipping policies to the UK, so an e-mail to them might be required.

The 100 ASA film are way less grainier than 30 years ago. Nice solid little camera you got yourself. Older Canon lenses should be fairly inexpensive in the second hand shops, especially in the off high street ones if in the south.

Welcome to the forum Im sorry I cant help point you in the right direction for what youre looking for but wanted to welcome you:)

You may have to look around for a good processing place. I stopped being serious about photos many years ago because of crappy processing ... I would spend the time to do my best just to have the photos come out lousy. I went from 35mm to a bunch of point and shoot film cameras to point and shoot digital (BTW still lousy around me) to DSLR. I plan on using some on-line source to get processing when I want photos done.

I believe as was said new film is much different than years ago ... enjoy your new camera!
