Got to borrow a friends 300mm f/2.8 L and his 1.4x TC for this last weekend. The weather was less than perfect but you do what you have to do. It rained and the sun shined but it was mostly overcast.
All shot with a Canon 1D mk IV with a 300mm f/2.8. All of the images were shot from my knees, even in the rain. As I've said in another post, you can control the background but you can get low and help bring in some sky to help. I will admit, it's nice having a 300mm and a 1.4x tc to use so you don't have to chase the action and you can stay in the end zones a lot longer or even all day.
1) f/2.8, 1/2000, ISO 400
2) f/3.2, 1/1600, ISO 400
3) f/3.2, 1/2000, ISO 400
4) f/2.8, 1/2500, ISO 320
5) f/2.8, 1/2500, ISO 320
6) f/2.8, 1/2500, ISO 320
7) f/3.2, 1/2500, ISO 400
8) f/3.2, 1/2500, ISO 500
