Off Camera Flash Round Two

Hey everyone,

So last time I posted I shared my first off camera flash attempt. It was a self portrait.

Here's that:

Wanted to give it another shot today, this time on someone else.

The flash was camera right, shooting through a Westcott umbrella. I had my reflector camera left.

Yes nice eyes, kind of intense. I don't have any other comments than I think you are on the right track.

Nice lighting! I like Designer's edit; the original does feel 1/3-1/2 stop too hot, but the lighting works!

Here's another from outside. I know it's not great but, I'm more concerned with the quality of the image.

I just bought a Tiffen Variable ND filter for using the flash outside. So how's this photo look in terms of it's quality? It was shot with a Canon 85mm f1.8 lens.

I'm no good at judging focus, the lighting is about the same or worse, considering the sharp break between light and shade on her hair.

Using an ND filter to use your flash outside doesn't make sense.

Yeah the sharp break was light coming through a crack in our fence.

The ND filter is so I can shoot wide open outdoors (during the bright hours) while using the flash. My flash isn't high speed sync compatible.
