Opinions on this lens please

Hello,

I'm looking to buy a lens that will work well for my D3100. My main use is going to be for portraits. What are other's thoughts on this lens for my camera? Can anyone suggests a better place to look to purchase this lens?

The 50mm f1.8g has BY FAR the highest image quality of any nikon lens for less then $1000. It's a great choice. The only issue is it's length, 50mm might be great for portraits but it may be a little long for everyday use, 35mm would be more versatile; however, the 35mm f1.8g is an older design and doesn't have as stellar of image quality.
