I'm in the metro DC area. I love the fact that I can place an order up to 4 or even close to 5 pm and the damn thing is at my door the next day virtually guaranteed. UPS ground nonetheless. No sales tax. Best prices, selection and return policy.

Zappos is the same way. Order Monday and receive Tuesday.

I have no patience for mail order that takes 5 days to ship. Which is why I don't like LL Bean much anymore. Takes too long to process an order, even one with no alterations.

Ditto. I only shop from places that ship the same day I order.

B&H, Adorama, JR Photo / Video, and Midwest Photo Exchange are about it for me. I trust them and have never been disappointed by any of them.

Unfortunately one of the places I used to order motorcycle accessories from WAS that way, but no longer. Every single thing I ordered was shipped the day I ordered it and in my hands within 2 or there days. Then an order languished around for several days before it shipped. The next order wasn't here after a week. I called to see what was going on and was told by a woman that sounded as if I were interrupting her lunch that it should ship the next day. I told her to cancel the order and she was actually surprised by it.

There are far too many companies around these days to deal with things like that. Companies that have competitive prices and ship the day I order are the ones that get my business. The rest don't. End of story.

I know, and I agree with you. I can't find film locally, and prices online are greatly lower... But I still feel bad for not supporting those businesses that supported photographers for so many years. Effects of progress I guess.

I often feel the same and sometimes wish that something would happen so that your online shop couldn't undercut the highstreet retailer. There is something infinity better about heading out, buying and coming home with something new in your hands. Heck for some things its a must have to see it before you buy it.
Sadly with no highstreet rent, reduced overheads etc.... your online shop is much like your supermarket in being able to void many costs and reach a larger number of customers all at the same time.

I love B&H, but I truly truly truly feel guilty for not buying local and supporting mom and pop. But 6 months interest free financing, no sales tax, and low prices... How can you avoid it? If my local store let me pay with bill me later, and gave me 6 months same as cash, I'd have bought there. And mom and pops film selection is dwindling too. Still though, I feel guilty.

If the only camera store left in Nashville was willing to sell me a D90 at the same price as B&H I would have bought it there. There was about $200 difference in price.

If the only camera store left in Nashville was selling CS6 for $250 I would have bought it there. Since they weren't I got it some place that was.

Dury's price for a Canon 5DMKII w/24-105mm L lens was competitive with online pricing as I was passing through Nashville one fine day, so that's where I got it. Nice store, all in all. I've bought a few other things from them as well when I'm passing through.

I agree, it is a nice store and I've bought several things there. If the price is within reason I will buy there, but their prices on Nikon bodies aren't what I'd consider within reason. As I recall both the D90 and D7000 were about $200 above B&H plus I would have had to pay 9.25% sales tax.

Durys used to have several stores. I don't remember exactly how many but there were at least 5 or 6. They are down to one now though. I still like to go in there though.

That was the reason I bought B&H. The $200 rebate made it $996, and at 8.25% that would have been $82.50 in sales tax if I had bought locally. That $82.50 savings paid for my Vello grip and half the overnight shipping.

B&H and I have an unwritten "mutual happy agreement". I make them happy from time to time, (L glass, etc)and they make me happy with same day ground shipping that gets to my house in Massachusetts the next day! WOW!

Gotta love B&H. I live in Baltimore, MD and the shipping is the same way for me. Incredibly quick. The only thing I dread about B&H is its holiday schedule. They're closed for 2/3 of the time between September and January. :er:
