Very nice Tim, the colour pallette is quite subdued but the tones really work well together. I like the composition too again very simple yet works very well for a nice balanced image

Thank you. Composition is very simple, just a diagonal plane of the beach against the symmetry of the almost parallel plane of the mountains. Colour in context. The eye only sees in relative values, so if you only present a subdued range of colour it sees the subtle differences. If you introduce saturated colour into the mix then it sees (or is deafened by) the difference between the subdued and the vibrant. The subdued looks grey in comparison and the subtleties are lost in the noise. You could turn the volume (saturation) up, but would it do anything other than deafen the senses?

As an interesting aside, I actually saw this as flatter than presented. But due to the restricted DR of the shot (3-4 stops max, it was very hazy) the contrast was too low for CS6 to Photomerge so I reluctantly had to up it in CR to get the pano to merge, (3 heavily overlapped shots with my Micro-Nikkor Auto PC 55mm f3.5 because I love the lack of distortion).

The beach is the entire West and North sides of Berneray, over three miles of it and we only say one other couple, (neither in a bikini).
