interesting pics...i would have chosen a different composition on the first pic, maybe a longer horizontal pic, and also tweaked your blackpoint or contrast up a bit. On the bartender....get the chairs out of the way, and maybe catch him with his hand on one of the taps...also seems a little soft, or out of focus for me.

Nice shot, love the first one, I think it needs more contrast it's a bit dull. I think the second shot with A LOT of editing in photoshop it has a lot of potential. (like darkening the whole place and leaving the bartender brighter than the rest of the place, some sharpness .. etc)

What do I get from the two photos?

The bar is slow and the poor guy outside needs money to get in the bar...

I agree #1 is short on contrast, the holy grail of B&W photography. I also believe strobed light would have helped a great deal giving a better sense of depth to the image.

#2 definately needed supplimental light (depth and separation).

loved the first one and i think i would love it more if it's in color.
no 2 didnt mean much to me though.
