Over lay for sports?

I recently seen a photographer taking sports individual pictures. She had a sport themed overlay or so it seemed. Wondering how she did that, or is it an action in PS?

What you are referring to is often called a 'Memory Mate' (team and individual photos + graphics on a single sheet of paper), and what you are calling an 'overlay' is known as a template.
