P & S Camera that shoots RAW?

Plenty of the superzoom P&S ones do, be prepared for some pretty horrendous distortion though.

I recently bought a Fuji F800EXR - it was one of the only (maybe the only) P&S in that price range ($200ish) that could shoot RAW.

I don't have much to compare it to (I shoot a lot of film, and my other digital cameras are very old).

It's OK in good light. It is pretty noisy in low light though. I don't think I could suggest it if you were going to be doing a lot of low light shooting (without flash). Shutter lag seems OK - not quite as quick as an SLR, but way faster than my older digital P&S cameras. The flash only fires when you manually raise it (there's a button that pops it up) - people seemed to complain about that, but it's a good thing, IMO. The flash will never fire unless you specifically want it to.

At low ISO, it looks OK to me. ISOs above 500ish start to display a lot of noise.

I mainly use it in the EXR mode though, so it may do better in other modes like manual or aperture priority.

When I was shopping for it, there were a couple Canon cameras closely priced that had a slightly larger sensor, but they didn't shoot RAW. I opted for RAW over sensor size.

Canon s100's can be found in the high $200 range.

Check out Canon's 'G' line. I'd consider them 'high end' point & shoot style (compact) cameras. Most of them can save Raw files (they dropped that option on one model, then brought it back with the next generation, so do your research). I believe they offer manual exposure mode and they have a hot-shoe. Might be able to find a used one for a good price.

I've been very happy with my Samsung EX1 and EX2. You can probably still find an EX1 in the $200.00 price range.

The EX2 has a 24-80 (equiv) zoom with a MAX aperture of f/1.4 -- the EX1 was f/1.8. The fully articulated LCD is really handy and they save raw files. Excellent build quality as well.
