The flare is a real deal-killer.

I'd like to know Mom has hands, too.

I think this is a great concept, and artistically well executed, but as mentioned, the flare isn't appealing, and I'm not fond of the tight crops. Still, an image they'll enjoy I suspect.

If you're looking a critique strictly on the "rules" of photography and composition and such you can point to lens flare and that your mom's hands were in her pockets and those cretiques are valid.

When I saw the images though I saw two people in love with each other.

A photo or a painting is effective if it sends a strong meaningfull message.
These images are effective just as they are IMHO because they really caputure something special between your mom and dad.

Thanks everyone! I know the lens flare is crap. (Go figure I got a hood for my lens the next day as a b-day gift) Thanks for the kind words of my parents. They are about to celebrate their 34yr anniversary next month and this was my gift to them.
