What's new

Pastels and Watercolors (and a few other art media)

Nice work! I think what makes this one special is knowing the steps you took to rescue it from the Learning Bin (aka trashcan). That makes it priceless!

I think soft edges on background flowers is appropriate. I wouldn't touch them. The foreground flowers aren't glaringly white - looks like you softened that with the light gray. It doesn't look like two separate paintings to me. Maybe you spent separate time on each element so it feels like that to you?

Let's see what @snowbear has to add. But I'd go with your initial feeling and be proud of this one for what you've learned from it.

I really like this one, as it is. The flowers are fine, the tree is great, the clouds are awesome. Sign it, frame it, and call it a day.

Thank you both!

Last watercolor class tomorrow. I don’t think I’ll take another in person wc class. There are too many free wc tutorials on YouTube or reasonably priced classes on patreon.

Back to the MFA next week for a 3 day abstract painting intensive then in October I start a 10 week landscape painting course .

There’s a 2 day weekend class on drawing from life that I might add at the end of this month. I’m trying to keep my momentum going and having a class scheduled really helps me with that. Plus I need to spend all my money before the zombie apocalypse begins.

Here’s my latest from a Karen Rice demo on YouTube. Love love love her work and her teaching style. May have to join her patreon. I’ve painted similar scenes in watercolor before but this one is much improved on those IMO.

On the way home for a couple weeks. I’m trying to decide if I can do anything with this.

Holy crap - this is gorgeous! Love love love it!

Still totally jealous of your local classes and the quality of your instructors. I've sniffed around and taken a few but they're mostly geared to kids. Eww.

Sure, why not? The bridge is awesome and you can cut out any elements you want. A nice sketch or one of your pretty WC/ink outline pieces- anything. There's potential!

Agree. Line and wash would be amazing for that scene!

So is “home” Maine yet or still referring to MD as home?

Maine. I converted driver’s license in March. We’ll still be shuffling until both houses are sold. MLSIL has surgery in September so back in a few weeks.

There’s an Art in the Park festival in South Portland this weekend. I’ll be in Jersey so can’t make it but if you’re looking for a fun outing… I love this artist’s paintings.
