That's about par for this lens. I have one too. Very fun to play with, but they don't do well with high contrast. They do even worse when shooting into the sun which is almost impossible to avoid considering it's 180 degree FOV.
Yes, try stopping down if you didn't already.
No, not perfect glass, but also not $2K.
