Photographer Portraits

I went to a shutter stroll hosted by a local photographer group yesterday evening. They had models, but, as could be expected, they fell in the realm of senior/graduate photography, which something I only do upon request (by friends...only by friends). Plus, the style that most of the local studios shoot is very different from mine, so I decided to turn my camera on the photographers just to get a bit of a different perspective on the whole thing.

It was pretty fun. The photographers were much more open to being photographed than I expected. lol

Love it! Surprisingly, many people behind the cameras are as pleasing to the eyes as the subjects they are shooting. Great job

nice shots. I like the lighting. Each shot seems to capture something in their personality.

Thanks. Yeah, I really had to wait for them to come out of "trying too hard" mode and loosen up a bit.

The woman in #4 was super nervous, which I thought was kind of interesting since they're used to directing and showing others' best sides.

Yeah all of them were shot with off-camera flash. For most I only used one, but for #2 I had someone stand behind him with a speedlight so his head wouldn't blend into the background toooooo much. I do wish I would have had the zoom on the speedlight a little wider though so it would have lit down his body a bit and not just on his face.

They're all very nice! What's your issue with #3's hand?

#1 is my pick for the pose, frame, light, and background.

Interesting, all shot in landscape mode...Normally I would have preferred a portrait orientation but #3 really stands out because you've given some great environmental elements. He should kick down a free dinner for that one!

Thanks. I do think some would look better in portrait orientation. The only reason I shot them like landscape is because of was using my Fujifilm X100s, which has a fixed focal length of 23mm (35mm equivalent), so landscape gives the least amount of distortion for portraits.

Otherwise, I agree that some would be better in portrait orientation such as the last one.
