I needed a good pic for my about.me page (about.me/natecampbell). This is what I came up with. Keep in mind, I just got my first DSLR about a week ago. (maybe two weeks ago)

What's with all the space behind you Nate? You either need a big-ass watermark there, or crop it out. Good sharp picture though otherwise. And welcome to the forum, it's a great place to learn stuff, and improve your skill.

Lord know's I've gotten much better after some rather 'pointed' reviews of my early work. And I've still got miles and miles to go. Cheers.

That's actually pretty amazing for a first try at a self portrait when only having a dSLR for about a week or two. Well lit, good exposure, sharp.

I thought I would add, this is a T3i with a Canon 50mm 1.8 lens. Lighting was via a speedlight behind an umbrella and I held a poster board on my lap to help fill in from underneath.

I have some friends that decided they want me to take their family pictures. Otherwise, I don't have much "other work" right now. I will be put pics up for people to see as I make more.

Amusingly, I have in my hands the book Photoportraits by Henri Cartier-Bresson, who knew one or two things about photography.

In this book of 255 portraits it is accurate to say that exactly zero of them have the subject filling the frame. This fetish for tight crops I see on TPF is pretty amusing, but only sometimes right.

If this were mine, I'd be looking the other way, though. Having the sight line lead immediately out of frame is a little out of balance.

FYI, there are two typos on the text overlay for the photo--"Amateur" instead of "ameature" and "abilities" instead of "abillities."
