Also.. do you notice all the noise in these photos? Do I have my camera set wrong? UGGG.. always the noise.

No noise on my monitor, but the photos do seem a bit soft. Anyway... Nice lights!! I've been seriously considering Alien Bee's for the home studio!

Did you purchase one of thier "kits"? If so, are you happy with them?

Thanks in advance...

they dont look too noisey to me. Maybe you have the iso setting high or because they're taken in low light. either way the lights look very nice.

Can you buy alien bees in the uk by any chance?

Nice. Did you get any soft boxes or diffusers? I've also been thinking about these...but it will be a few years till they fit into the budget.

Check the site, you could order them...but the shipping would be killer.

I was gonna go with the digi kit.. but I didn't want the umbrellas they offered, so I just bought 2 AB B800 lights and 2 of the 10' stands. I bought 1 43" softbox umbrella, 1 40" softbox umbrealla, and a backdrop stand from Amvona. I'm still considering 3 more cheaper lights for hair and kicker (background). I'm not sure tho. The noise is pretty apparent to me.. but I guess I'm picky, I haven't checked the iso settings on my camera tho, I think its set to 100.

If anybody has any lighting techniques for small rooms I would appreciate it.. I'll probably start a post about that tho.

Thanks for the comments -

congrats! let us know how you like them, I'm looking at getting one or two of those b800s.

STUPID Question: How do I attach my softbox umbrellas to my lights... I know the pole goes through the hole and all...but do I leave the silver thing on there...lol... Pathetic huh. yeah.

To attach modifiers to lights...you usually need things called speed rings.

from the Alien Bee site
The LGSR rotating speedring is included with all softboxes and octaboxes. We also sell our speedrings individually, should you need to connect another brand of softbox to your AlienBees unit. We also offer speedrings so that you may use our softboxes on other brands of flash units. It is not necessary, however, to purchase a speedring when you purchase a softbox or octabox, as they are included.

Hmm.. I don't know.. doesn't look like it needs one...hmm... I'll take a picture and post it

No silver thing - WHAT IS THAT CALLED!

I know what a speedring is.. I just don't know if I need one... doesn't look like it. If I do, then why is there that hole in the silver thing?

Its called a field reflector... hahha... thats why they come with instruction manuals! lol.
