Pictorial Lighting Mortensen

Found an old book titled "Pictorial Lighting" by Mortensen. I have read the book and he uses a simple Lighting approach with just two lights in various positions.
Book was written in the 1930's.

Anyone tried his lighting methods ?

You can get great photos with 1 light if not 2. One light can do the work of 3. It can be done. What does he do that is unique?

The pictures in the book using his methods look real nice. He seems to get quite a bit using a basic setup.
He seems to have generated quite a bit of strong opinions one way or another...but his pictures do look very nice.
