I think that there is really too little in focus. The subject is the stamen, which look quite boring to be completely honest. I think there is a lot of potential with this image as an abstract of a flower, but you may need to stop down a bit more to show just a tiny bit more of the flower. Also getting the rest of the image a smidgen more contrasty would help as well this way the full focus isn't entirely on the anther (tip of the stamen).
Not sure how I feel about this completely, I want to like it but certain aspects bother me. I think you are definitely on the right path, just not sure what else aside from the focus that is bothering me (I really think that and the contrast are the biggest hindrances)
