Can others edit my Photos
Photos OK to edit
Just did my first photo shoot ever with friends yesterday for practice. I've only had my camera for not even a full day at this point. Quick rundown: Shot in RAW with a Canon 7D in Manual mode, edited in Lightroom. I know I made a lot of mistakes probably (my biggest problem I feel like was keeping the camera level) I need a tripod. I also think I went to warm on some pictures and some pictures are way over saturated. Please give me as much criticism as possible. Thanks. Photoshoot 1. - a set on Flickr

Few will wade through an entire photoshoot. Pick 3 or 4 and post 'em here.

It's only 42 pictures. I'm not looking for individual criticism on each picture just an overall on what I need improvement on, but I will post some.

42 is a *lot* of images. You will get more helpful critique if you post the best you took or the ones you have the most questions about.

As you wish.

Subjects all centered. Some need fill flash. Some are out of focus. Uneven lighting in some.

I agree with the above posts. The focus is also off on some of the images, and I am wondering why they are holding things in the images such as phones, car keys, etc. They couldn't put that kind of stuff in their purses or pockets while taking pictures?

Do all of the girls have spray-on tans or is that from post processing? Either that or they have way too much make-up on, and the wrong shade of foundation.

I like them for the most part. But the dof is distracting in a few. For instance, on the photos of the three girls on the beach with the trees behind them. The trees become less and less in focus across the screen which is distracting. And then theres the usual critizm. Some are over exposed. Some should have been metered differantly. But I like them. I think no matter who shoots an image someone will find something wrong.

I was having trouble with getting all 3 subjects in focus on most shots. Which focus mode should I use on group shots if I want to achieve a bokeh effect while having all the subjects in perfect focus

It's not a function of focus mode. It's a function of knowing the relationship between depth of field, aperture and focal length.

hahahahahahaha yeah 2 out of the three do it looks awful :| and they have a lot of bronzer on. And yeah it wasn't a really serious shoot I didn't even notice it when I was doing it cause I was so overwhelmed by trying to change the subjects cause the conditions kept changing on me, but I didn't wanna settle for auto mode or even aperture priority/shutter priority.

That is something that seems like is going to take time for me to perfect. Like I said I am a beginner and before this have had zero hands on experience. I've been reading books for the last six months; that is my only source of knowledge really.

Also any good guides or books you can recommend for me? Or is this something i'm just going to have to get a grasp on myself?

I've seen worse.

As others said, don't center everyone's head in the frame.
