So, I'll let the poll speak for itself.

Barring owning some camera that has a fixed set of settings (ie can't change anything) I can't imagine how anyone would operate with the latter method easily. It would seem foolish to walk around with a fixed set of settings waiting for a specific scene to unfold which suits those and only those settings; when one has a DSLR or similar camera, capable of adjusting its settings to allow for alternative creative control over multiple scenes and situations.

I dont follow this. Are you choosing between proper camera settings for a given scene as opposed to setting your camera and then trying to find the scene to shoot with those settings. Your poll isnt worded very well at all.

I was just just curious about the initial response. Truth is, most times, I am limited by my gear. I think most others are in the same circumstance...whether or not they shoot manual or aperture priority, they are still pretty much wide open trying to get the fastest shutter speed they can. IMO, the secret is choosing circumstances where your settings will work for you instead of trying to force a situation upon your settings.

Like I said, don't worry about it. The thread was probably poorly worded and won't accomplish anything.

You can set your camera to record any lighting condition given you have a proper tripod to keep the camera steady. Unless you have a box brownie with a peanut flash you can set your camera for any situation. Do you let the lighting situation dictate whether you shoot it or not. Or do you set your camera to match the lighting situation so you can shoot it correctly? Either way its kind of a silly poll. Im wondering how your gear limits you? What kind of box brownie do you own?

I primarily shoot with a D700. If I wanted my images to look like your avatar, I would probably have a lot more lee-way than what I give myself. For me, your particular image would be unacceptable. IMO, it looks like a forced situation where you just didn't have the appropriate gear to make it right so you 'tried' to turn it into something 'creative'. No big deal. It takes all kinds...even if most of it is crap.

Lets all try and be mature and debate the point at large instead of trying to just take potshots at each other. However it does seem that the point in general needs clarification since it seems to be suggesting one thing, whilst the OP is meaning something slightly different.

Maybe not for the facebook photographers, common setting of "P" seems to work well
