Can others edit my Photos
Photos OK to edit
Right, basically, I'm due to start college next year and my interview will be next march-ish time and its a photography course I've applied for. Due to rather limited places on the course, I was told to take something with me to my interview to make me stand out, something such as a portfolio. But, due to a lot of stress because of exams, coursework and other stuff etc, I haven't really had time to sit down and have a proper hard think about what themes to do, and when I do think of something it always seems to be pants! :')
So basically, I need idea's!
Right, the only photo editing thing I have at the moment is paintshop pro and I only have a digital camera, samsung p1000, as my mum does not want to buy me a decent camera until I've proved to her that photography is what I want to do :')

Thanks! :D

Interesting predicament.

You have no idea what to take pictures of.
You have a point-n-shoot.
You need a portfolio to try to knock the socks off the instructors and edge other possible students out cuz they can't just let anyone in.

Actually, there are many themes u can do. its just up to you on what you want to choose. Landscapes/Cityscapes, PEOPLE, Automotive, Street photography (i.e. Bums on the street, people smoking/conversing), Clothing.etc.

BUT my #1 ADVICE is to pick up your CAMERA ((whether a point n shoot or DSLR)) and SHOOT! shoot EVERYTHING and ANYTHING! By doing that, you'll be able to see what you're better at shooting. n then from there, you can start making your portfolio.

It's the photographer, not the equipment, so the P&S camera is a non-issue and is a decent camea

There is still 4 months before the interview, so time is not currently an issue.

Paintshop Pro is more than adequet for image editing, plus GIMP is free and you can have it downloaded whenever.

It seems if you were really interested in photography, you would have the problem of to many themes bouncing around in your head.

It seems like the only real issue is - mum won't spring for a new camera.

Hey guys I want to be a photographer but gosh I'm so busy would it be cool if you guys came up with the ideas and shot the pictures for me? k thanx.

ah, but like i said, i have more important things at the moment to concentrate on such as exams, and you said it was the photographer, not the equipment that mattered xD

hey, i only asked for help, not criticism on the fact I don't have a professional camera or that I'm not in the right mind, i'd appreciate some helpful comments please, I'm nothing professional at it, hence why I'm going to college to study it, jeeeez.

and no, my name is Savannah, I don't like anywhere near there :')

Sorry, but if you're not in the right mindset to come up with a thoughtful idea for your portfolio, how do you think the class is going to go? My advice to you: start thinking about it, start looking at things from interesting perspectives or this process (both the interview/portfolio and the class, if you make it in) is going to be difficult for you.

I think you're up **** creek without a paddle.

The reason I am not in the right mind set is because I'm too busy focusing on my exams at the minute, which to be perfectly honest are far more important, because I need to get the grades to be accepted into college anyway and my exams aren't over til January next year, so I've set my priorities for the time been, just thought it would be nice if some people on here could give me some theme ideas!

If you're too busy now, WAIT till you're not so busy :). There's no rush in photography. Take it in stride learn as you go. You're not going to turn pro as soon as you get the camera out of the box. Only D3's come with a professional cert.

If the point and shoot is good go and take some pictures of maybe macro objects? Or portraits? You are very limited with what you can do with a point and shoot.
Try buying a 35mm film slr, like a canon ae-1, fujica st605n or search up some others! Film is a great way to get into photography and in my opinion its better than a point and shoot.
Give it a go!

Sorry, that statement is always what gets me. You are presenting a portfolio to get into a creative arts field. I know you and others will hate me for saying this, but, the truly creative people very rarely need to ask others what they should do. Truly creative people tend to never have time to execute all the ideas they come up with, ever. You will be up against these people, to get into this class.

I could rattle off 100 ideas for you. They are my ideas though. They will demonstrate my abilities, not yours. They will be exemplary of my unique point of view.

I hope you can look at my statements objectively, and understand what I am saying.
