Portfolio help!

I agree, arguing is dumb, but what they are saying is true and I honestly don't see anyone arguing about anything. College is serious, and if someone is being that serious about doing good on their exams on their own, why not their port? Concept is a huge part of photography. Asking a bunch of people for portfolio concepts is the same as asking everyone on here for the answers to the exams.

The reason I am not in the right mind set is because I'm too busy focusing on my exams at the minute...

Being creative isn't something that you turn on and off depending on whether or not you're busy. I'm trying to wrap up the biggest project of my life, and no matter how badly I need to get it done, and I still can't stop my head from swimming with ideas for my next photo or video project. Sometimes I have so many creative ideas marauding my brain that I can't even finish sentences when I'm trying to talk to someone, let alone pay attention to what they say back to me. I'm not trying to sound all cool like, 'hey, check out how creative I am'. But what I'm saying is, that is the mind of someone who belongs in a creative field. You should be going to photo school because you are already obsessed with photography and drowning in your own creativity. You can maybe go, and they'll teach you all the rules and such, but unless you're the type who has been gifted/cursed with creativity, then you'll just spend your life making uninspiring, mediocre images.

I'm not trying to be a d-bag, but all I'm saying, is that if it is that much of an effort to come up with a creative idea for your portfolio, then there is probably something besides photography that you would be much more suited for.

I went to college as a drumset performance major. I didn't do that because towards the end of high school I decided that the drums were cool and that I wanted to learn to play them and be a pro at it, even though I didn't have any yet. I did it because I had been playing since I was 4, and when everyone else was playing sports, or video games or just hanging out, I was in my basement parcticing the drums 6 hours a day. And I was doing that, because it was what I wanted to be doing with my time. And anytime I wasn't playing the drums, I was thinking about it. That's why I went to college for them. That's the kind of passion that should be pointing you towards photo school.

I understand what you are saying, and completely agree. I was more referring to people who come on here, ask a question, and when they aren't told what they want to hear, they freak out, which pisses everyone off, and BOOM, a pissing contest follows.

ROFL at all the statements in this thread! Cheered me up.

BJ is 100% right about the creative minds.

When i was in school i knew what i was going to study next and focused on it more than i focused on my maths and geography skills, failed those subjects and got into college based on my passion for what i was studying.

My advice would be to search deep within your soul and find something that makes you tick, do a big project on it, make it into a book (Make your own book. Make it great.) and present that to the college.
