a look I've been going for a bit lately is adding a bit more contrast, a good bit of desaturation, and then upping the 'vivid' coors. To me, the eyes could be a tiny bit sharper, but that also could be the hosting method instead of the actual photo. I generally find shots posted here as an attachment lose a decent amount of sharpness. Given that this looks like it was shot with a medium format to me, I'd guess that the actual shot the eyes are really sharp, and they just lost a bit on here.

This almost instantly felt like a character that belonged in Half-Life 2/Hunger Games? (These settings are both pretty similar actually).

This is really good, LOVE the style! Next time I visit my daughter and grandkids in Seattle I may beg to spend a couple of hours as junior sub assistant... don't worry, it probably won't be for another couple of years unless I win the lottery.

I agree with the OP I like the old feel to it. I also like the shadowing I am more drawn personally to shadows vs highlights. Excellent work

Well said, i'm a fan of shadows myself too. I think that's been a helpful key in my portraits with strobes is asking not "where do i want the light to be," but "where do I want the dark to be..."
