Prime lenses for weddings/events

Where does one get this 70-2,000/2.8 lens. I WANT ONE !!

I used to shoot news back in the film only days. We didn't use zooms back then because zooms were extremely unsharp and slow. On fast breaking news stories, one had to be pretty much prepared for anything the world would throw at you. My basic kit consisted of two cameras and a Nikkor: 180mm f/2.8, 135mm f/2, 85mm f/1.8, 50mm f/1.4, 28mm f/2.8 and a 20mm f/2.8.

My least used lens was the 50mm. The three most used were the 85mm, 28mm and 180mm in that order.

Get a fast zoom. Primes are great for farting around but not for fast paced action.

I've usually used a short telephoto (135mm prime). I like to not be in too close so people aren't noticing me but go on with what they're doing. Depends on the sport/event if I might take along or use an 85 or 50mm.

You gave good advice, but it got derailed after post #12 was misunderstood.

Also, the OP was already using 24-70 & 70-200 on his 2 bodies albeit one is FF and the other APS-C.

To those who advised me to shoot with fast zooms, thank you I already do that, check my signature and you will see the lenses I own.

"eal76" no need to be upset, the guys here simply were smiling because of a little typo mistake you made, just harmless fun, trust me I get laughed at too from time to time, all in good spirit

As I said I use 2 cameras and I thought of a set up of 135mm f2 on FX and 28mm f1.8 on APS-C
But I don't know how fast does the Nikon 135mm focuses, its really more of a portrait lens then general use lens
Or I could only buy a 135mm f2 and put it on the APS-C and use my 24-70mm on the FX., 135mm on DX body is equal to almost 210mm.
In the future I will definitely get another FX body like the D610 or maybe even D800 and on that a combination of 135mm n one and 28mm on the other sounds promising.
For times I need more flexibility like first kiss or anything I need to keep away from event I still have my fast zoom lenses which I don't plan on selling.

At the moment its just a thought and I find everyone's reply's very enlighten and helpful.

I'd go 24-70 on the FF and the 135mm on the APS-C. That would give you the widest and the longest focal lengths. Then you'll have to work/foot-zoom the in between stuff, but the longer and wider you get, the more optical drama you'll bring to your images.

You are correct, nobody said it. But, my typing 2000 instead of 200 took the OP's post way off topic. Let's get this back on track and help this photographer. OP, if the setup I mentioned won't work for you, please let us know so we can offer some other ideas. If you want to have a prime lens on one body and a zoom on another, that's another good option as another poster mentioned earlier (if memory serves me).

Sigma 35 1.4 Art on a full-frame is a MUST for me. Not only is it my go-to for many things, it's incredibly sharp and a beautiful imager. I would want a 35 Art and a 135 f2 or 70-200 on the other body (both full frame).
