35 years ago, I had a film camera and time
Those learning now have the advantage of internet and a vast selection of books.

Take your time and learn one aspect/facet at a time. Exposure/technique/Composition/Style and then combine them as you grow
Try/review/redo/grow

Many people now want instant success, instant gratification and instant social acceptance

lol The way I learned was buy doing!! I would spend 15 minutes shooting in my backyard then go inside to see what worked. Delete the shots and go right back out. Believe me I deleted a lot of shots!!! But they helped me SOOO much!!

Yeah some people want to jump in and want to become pro right away. Some learn faster than other, it's like everything you do in life, you have to be dedicate and keep working to become better. Learning these days like Joey said is much easier with the internet, books, youtube and etc. With digital, you can easily delete as many pictures as you want and keep snapping. Before you have to develop the film to see the results which cost money. Read, practice, read, practice.
