without color selection

This past Saturday I did pictures for my brothers Sr. Prom...
Im still new to this but I can see im getting better... C&C please...

Used my Canon T4i with kit lens 18-55mm and YN-565EX

The "customer" is happy with them... Just want to see what "real" people think since the "customer" is my family

C&C per req:

1. Holy saturation Batman! Dial down the red channel, a LOT and the saturation overall as well! I'm guessing you're not working with a calibrated monitor? The concept isn't bad, 'though she does look a little uncomfortable there.

2. Ummm... Sorry, but this is a perfect example of what NOT to do with selective colouring IMO. The use of selective colour in an image is to pull our eye to a particular point; why his vest & tie? When a client asks for something like this, it's a good idea to explain the ins and outs of it.

3. NOT fond of the treatment here; the skin has a 'dead' pallor. I would suggest cropping away most of the top of the structure as it's lines and bright areas really draw the eye away from the subjects, and return the skin tone to normal.

4. CUte, I like this, but I would liek to see it leveled.

5. Level and square this one and dial back the saturation and you've got a nice capture here.

6. If Mom really wants a selective colour image, do this one with them in colour and the background left as monochrome. Again it needs to be leveled.

7. Nice; perhaps a touch more contrast as it appears a little mid-tone rich.

Overall, not a bad set, and will be, IMO, much stronger with some of the processing dialled back a notch or two.

I think tirediron's critique is spot on. They're pretty decent images. If you follow his advice, they'll be even better.

I agree with the numbered critique above as well.

Side note... Call me a square, but I'm not a fan of kids kissing on the lips. Takes away from the innocence of childhood IMO. I think a kiss on the cheek is a lot more appropriate for the school aged kids.
