I wasnt intending to do photography as a business, just social, and taking photos of my little one!! so this is a huge bonus!!

Might be seen differently by the bride and groom.

Good luck on processing RAW, after you have that mastered- it is smooth sailing.

You might wonder about the popcorn thing.
The issue is that we are seeing a fair number of people who are realtively new to photography and their cameras who get themselves a wedding shoot as their first job.

Shooting weddings is probably the most stressful of all routine photo work and requires huge skill and a lot of equippment knowledge and Backup.
You are responsible for the memories of a once in a lifetime (hoped) event for someone.
I've been shooting for years, have lots of experience and a good amount of very expensive equipment and would be loathe to shoot a wedding - mostly because I know that it is difficult to be great and very, very easy to have a disaster.

From what you've said, you clearly have relatively little experience and, tbh, a D200 is not the best camera for weddings because anything above 600 or 800 iso shows noise.

Do a search and read some of the other threads and you'll see what I mean about the requirements for success in wedding photography.

A friend of mine just spent a fortune on a wedding. It was absolutely gorgeous. It's a sad shame that she decided to let a friend take the photos because she thought her friend knew what she was doing. So much for the memories of a beautiful wedding. I swear my 3 year old grandson could have done a better job. They were the absolute worst photos I think I've ever seen. I would love to share them with you guys but I wouldn't do that to the photographer (or whatever the person was). Photographer seems to nice of a word.

Once the cake, table decorations, and friends are gone all that is left are the photos. I don't understand why people want to skimp on one of the most important aspects of the wedding.

because others don't see it as the most important. I was the first in my family to pay for a pro. People usually are content with snapshots. Pro photographers are considered a luxury for most people. When it comes to weddings neccessity goes before luxury. 3000$ photographer or a better dress and more guests? just look at your parents and grand parents photos not many of you can say they were professionally done. Its only lately that pro photographers are being considered an important wedding aspect.

I suppose you're right.

I was a flower girl in a wedding 40 years ago and their was a professional taking the photos. I was so stinkin' cute. But yes, back then it was a luxury to have an expensive wedding equipped with a photographer and sadly many still feel this way. I guess it's all how you feel about photos. Some people just don't care and it's not has important to them.

I was poking fun at someone's photo one day (bad Jess :blushing: ) and my husband said, "Just because you see the errors doesn't mean everyone else does...they think it's an awesome photo!" Which he was right... I hate it when he's right.
