Question about long exposures

On a remote you can press it once to start, and once to stop so you don't have to hold the whole time.

I looked at the sensor and I am a bit leery about cleaning it myself. It looks really fragile.

I talked to a guy today and he told me that he wouldnt clean it unless it is really dirty just so I dont make it worse. He said that he would just remove it in post. I dont think I am going to attempt to clean it yet.
