I'm about to buy a Nikon D3000 from Best Buy. Should i purchase the 2 year warranty from Geek Squad? Or do Nikons come with their own warranties? I just don't want to spend an extra $50 if i don't have to.

Thanks.

I am sure the camera should come with manufacturer warranty. However, it could be just 1 year.

So I assume the extra dollars are for extended warranty. It is up to you personally to buy it or not. I personally do not buy extended warranty, but it does not mean others should do the same thing.

I personally usually do not buy extended warrenties. I did buy one for my 55' LED but other than that I have not purchased one. But that is just my personal experience.

Before you spend your money at Best Buy, I would suggest checking out prices on line at either B&H Photo or Adorama. Best Buy is usually overpriced. B&H and Adorama are both highly respected camera stores and actually have very knowledgeable staffs. If the price is the same at Best Buy, and you want to walk in and walk out with your cam, buy it there. It's your hard earned money, but it's always a good thing to pay less. B&H and Adorama also have great support after the fact, and it doesn't cost extra.

I generally don't buy any of the extended warr. stuff from BB....except maybe for laptops (for screens which typically crap out). Why give them more of my $$?

like everyone else mentioned some things are worth buying an extended warranty on and other things not so much. IMO, cameras, not so much. Now if the price was like $40 then i would say yes but places like Best Buy usually rape you for what? 25% of the cost of the camera?

Extended warranties are usually just a scam for the seller to make $$$.

Depending on the product of course... Nikon is a good manufacturer. And although, just like anything else, I'm sure there are warranty issues occasionally...

I find with the majority of electronics... if it works for a year (manufacturers warranty), it will work for a long time. Unless it is abused or you have bad luck like I do... :)

i bought my s95 from BB and purchased a 3 year extended warranty for around $80.
two weeks later i dropped it on a sidewalk and cracked the lcd screen. they fixed it at no cost to me. now i can see what i'm taking pictures of again.

i also pay for 'insurance' on my cell phone ($5 extra a month) that i've used several times now.

for small 'gadgets', things that get dropped or smashed, i think it's a good idea.

i didn't purchase any extended warranty for my flat screen tv from BB.
i didn't picture myself dropping it are spilling something all over it ;)

Might check with your credit card company. Some companies will double the warranty if you purchase the item on the card, I know AMEX does this

Uhmmm Nikon has 2 year warranty on body and standard 5 year warranty on lenses. Why you're buying a D3000 from Best Buy is beyond me.
Not in the US.

Camera bodies are only warrantied for 1 year in the US. Camera lenses are also only warrantied for 1 year, but if the buyer registers the lens with Nikon USA the warranty is extended 4 more years.

Ah yes, I stand corrected. That's only with Canadian warranty, my mistake and apologies to the OP.
