50mm, f/3.5, 1/2000s, ISO 200.

Shot this in RAW, didn't do anything to it but convert to JPG and crop it. I'm pretty happy with it, but if anyone has recommendations on how I could improve I'd love to hear them. Thanks!

I dont know how to explain it, its just to close... I dont like the composition personally but the shot itself, exposure and colours, sharpeness are great.

Really a beautiful trout!

CdtSnap, here is the original. Better for you? Or is the cropping sweet spot somewhere in between? I cropped it so heavily because the appealing part of that photo for me wasn't the net, but the detail in the fish.

Thats instantly better on my eyes, I like that much better, the round edge of the net frames it nicely.

Because of the DOF the fish is still the focus so its fine. If the net was in focus also it would probably be a different story

You know, those are good points and the more I look at the original the more I like it better. Thanks!

Not that im an expert but thats what catches my eye, actually quite like the original.

I agree with CDTSnap. If you are including the net then it becomes an integral part of the final result. Imo, overall composition in pic 2 is better.
