Yeah, not a popular subject. The Blue Bottle Fly (I've been calling them garbage flies):

How the hell did you get it to sit still for that? With a reverse coupled lens, you had to have been right on top of it.

That's a neat shot, but you may have oversharpened a bit. The hairs have some halos. On the other hand, the detail you've captured in the compound eye is pretty amazing.

I have a friend who is pretty good at this. One of his fly images is here: _MG_0310_sig | Flickr - Photo Sharing!. However, he's so far ahead of me and most of the other club members that we just stare and drool and his images. His techniques are rather basic, but he has the patience and skill to capture the right moment, and he's also very, very good at post-processing.

Yeah...I have absolutely NO idea why it was posing for me...it sat there for like ten minutes and just let me take photos...even with the flash...I guess it just senses that one day I'm going to be one of the next major photogs and wanted to be a part of my history...sweet! Of course, I jest. But still it was nice that it stuck around for that long...

Yeah...I added a little sharpening...but the halos come from the shadow/highlight tweak...and your buddy's photos are awesome...wow...very inspirational for sure...thanks for sharing that link pgriz

Probably the best shot I've ever seen you post, looks awesome man.

Well, a lot of missed focus but thank you kindly none-the-less...just got paid today and again will have nothing left to buy equipment with...perhaps next payday...

I wonder what the story is behind nature's decision to place stitching on that fly's forehead...
