The real photo booths were not Polaroid, or Polaroid-type. They simply used reversal paper and put it through a reversal process. Hence the waiting while the print dried.

A B&W booth would not be too difficult to make. If you want suggestions on how to make one instead of a fresh-fangled digital contraption, just ask.
