Recommend Beginner Camera

Ok, so i'm new to all this. And I wanna start off on the right foot, by getting a decent camera. I'm not really looking for a SLR or DSLR, just something fairly compact and high quality with at least 8x Optical Zoom. The Canon Powershot A4000 IS was recommended to me but I'm not sure. It seems great, but seeing as i don't really know much, i thought i'd see what you guys have to say. Or what you would recommend? And what should I look for, in terms of specs? Thanks :meh:

I have an older, cheaper version. I have taken it all over, and used it for years. It fits into my pocket, so I can have it just about anywhere. You can't really do much in the way of settings, but you can learn the basics of composition. I have discovered that it will take a picture even when there isn't enough light to get a good shot. This means the pictures will come out blurry due to camera movement and too slow shutter speed. Oh well, I still had fun.
