They look a little fuzzy - don't know if this is a focus problem or a lens quality situation. In the first one, I would clone or crop out the OOF wire in the background and in the second one, I would do the same to the wire in the lower right. They are just background items that are distracting.

Thanks for the comment westernguy! I agree the wires need to be cropped out.

And haha what a coincidence coastal! Any idea why the image is a little fuzzy as westernguy said? It definitely could be me, it was shot handheld and using af.

To me it look like it is focused slightly in front of the bird. If you look at the wire it is sharper closer to you. Hard to tell on web images, just a hunch. I always try to use center point and focus on the eye... What were your settings? I think I may have been slightly closer also. Depth of field gets pretty small at 500mm. for instance, at f6.3 at 50 feet your DOF is only about 8" ...

500mm, 1/2500 shutter speed, f6.3 at iso 400. I think it was most likely a focus issue. I was slowly moving closer and kept pressing to refocus but I never heard it change. Is the image you posted cropped? It looks so much sharper than mine, haha.

I don't even think I have the original anymore. I was still shooting jpeg. Judging from the info on flickr, it is cropped, but I was less than 45 feet away.
