Replacing a 18-200 lens

I'm in the same situation... this is why I'm sticking with my 18-200mm VR... you really can't touch the range in any type of quality, I'd rather have a little less quality than missing the shot all together because I was trying to switch back to my 18-55mm

skiboarder72's comment above describes exactly my concern: missing out on shots altogether.

Thanks everybody for the great input. I did some research after reading your suggestions and t seems that the way to go is the Tamron 17-50 f/2.8 and the Nikkor 55-200 VR.

The only issue with the above would be the limited range of the Tamron. Does anybody have any experience with the Nikkor 16-85 VR and/or the Nikkor 24-120 VR?
