I usually don't like soft focus but am ok with this one for some reason.

Not sure how I feel about the square crop but there was a prius just out of frame :/

"Culty" is definitely the vibe I'm getting.

The first shot I was like "oh look sirens in a river a la O' Brother Where Art Thou" and then I saw Jesus behind them.

I really like #7 (the soft focus one). I agree that in this instance it works well and has a very nice "lazy days of summer" feel. It should be part of a Hollister ad.
For me the real winner is the second to last. It is a really nice B&W when B&W is often just an affectation. What really makes it is the various expressions and where they are looking. The textures and patterns are wonderful as well. My only nitpick is watch the feet but given the laissez-faire feel I'm actually fine with it this one time.

So what is the backstory on this photo set? It really looks like a cult gathering at the river from the 1970s.

I like the set. It has the "summer of love" feel to it. A flashback for sure. All thats missing is a VW Bus

Backstory is a music video shoot for the "jesus" you mentioned. I was there to take prod stills for possible album/promo art.

Thanks for all the feedback! The Black n white pic of the 3 girls on the blanket is one of my favorites too, I love the expressions on all 3 of their faces. I actually cropped some of the foot off on purpose, it looked a little zombie-ish because of mud and was kind of bugging me. Alternate version below. Maybe the wider is better despite the smushy foot?

Wider shot of the three girls is definitely better, imo.

That third photo in the second set is gorgeous, eerie, just wow. The rich blacks of the water, the way the three women are lit and the contrast of the guy against the water, even the white sky on the right balancing things out. I wish I could put that as my desktop but then the wife wouldn't really like that, can't imagine why.

I forgot about that shot until just yesterday. Pretty happy with it compositionally and from a narrative standpoint. Tried to do some fun stuff with the lighting since I had a few more resources than usual.

I actually have it saved at 16x9 because I've used it as a desktop before, haha.
