Model. Ugh..It is hard for me to find people to photograph so I always wind up with this girl and it is only because she is in love with herself ahaha. I can't really complain though...gives me practice!!


1. I know it's soft on her face but I like the idea of this photo especially the 40 ahaha

2. I'm not to sure about this photo. I like the pose buut It is very grainy...

4. should I crop this one more closer to her feet?? I was kind of indecisive about it.

6. This one cracks me up, as I was shooting this a cop walked pass the alley way and did a double take of what we were doing. I didn't know what to do other than wave hahaha, guess it worked because he just walked away.

7. The really disgusting part of this photo is...she thinks she looks fat......wow..

CC? I think I am improving in my portraits, espcially when I compare them to older ones. I hope I am doing something right?? One of my friends are getting married and wants me to do her engagement photos ANNND thennn her wedding....scaarrryyy

hmm, the Pictures with the flash seem a little strong on the light, and cast bad shadows. are you using a defuser and bouncing or shooting straight?

The first one is very blurry, you could use a tripod or raise your shutter speed and the ISO.

The second is one isn't bad even with the noise, it gives it an old Film look.

Your second is probably the best in regards to composition and lighting, the rest lack those points.

I have allot more to say but im really tired and need sleep so ill let someone else fill in.

I was using my on camera flash, that is all I have to work with. I did try bouncing the light off my hand haha. It worked a little compared to not using my hand. I hate using that flash, it is not flattering. I don't know what I was thinking buuttttt I didn't mess with the ISO. Yeah, whatttt a neewwb. Next time will be better!!! )

Darn, thought I would have a film roll...I used to be into film when I first started photography in HS buuut seems now that I can't find them when I need them. Hate that!!! Thanks for your help. Now I have some activities to keep me busy and creative )

Those little on flash diffusers would not have significantly changed anything in these circumstances. They act mostly to spread the light more widely around a room so that some of it bounces from the walls and ceiling thus increasing the apparent size of the light source in relation to the subject. When used outdoors all that light shot out in different directions is simply wasted power since there is nothing to bounce it back to the subject and all the while the apparent size of the source in relation to the subject has not changed in any significant way. You would still have had a hash light but needed more power from your flash to get it. To soften the light when you do not have walls and a ceiling to bounce off of you need to increase the size of the light source. You do this with umbrellas or reflecting/diffusion panels or light boxes.
