Photos OK to edit
Today I did a sample shoot of my niece for Christmas. A little c&c would be helpful as I am new to photography with kids.

Personally I would try and take out the out of place background of the photo; it looks like blinds or something? I would probably zoom in on her face and ha[FONT=georgia, bookman old style, palatino linotype, book antiqua, palatino, trebuchet ms, helvetica, garamond, sans-serif, arial, verdana, avante garde, century gothic, comic sans ms, times, times new roman, serif]ve her closer to the tree. I would focus more on her face, not her whole body, but that's just a personal opinion. And as mentioned above, the shot is out of focus, so you would want to focus it for sure.

Bus Rider Yep, it is kind of yellow/green.

I think the shutter speed is more to blame than the focus

1/4 second... way too slow, especially for kids. f/5.6 is a little bit small of an aperture - and even with the kit lens at 30mm (this was taken at 30mm I'm assuming with the kit lens) you should have been able to get a bigger aperture, like f/4 maybe.

Or use a flash. The flash duration is very short and will freeze the motion of a kid.

Yes, it was at 30mm with a Tameron lens. Thanks for the information, I just got Understanding Exposure so I will slowly learn. Thank you.
