I am trying to find a scanner that can easily scan very large format B&W negatives. We are talking negatives that are roughly 8x10. I have an Epson scanner that can scan up to 4 inches wide, but scanning in 2 pieces is time consuming and prone to errors. I am looking for something relatively cheap ($100-200) and portable. I have shopped online, but it is difficult to tell what the capabilities are for some of the scanners. It seems that trays cut to the size of the negatives are required for most of these, too, and that is problematic when the negatives are so large (I am not sure that they are all exactly the same size either).

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

We use an Epson V700 for scanning 8x10 negs for proofing purposes. The V700 comes with a film mask to align the 8x10 neg directly on the scanner glass - you don't use a film holder with 8x10 on this scanner. Scanning at 1200 spi gives good results.

Best,
Helen
