I've been contemplating whether or not I should invest in a film scanner... There are quite a few flatbed scanners out there that are capable of scanning transparencies, but most of the reviews I've read claim that the quality is horrible.

I've been looking at the Minolta Dimage Scan Dual IV, and it sounds pretty good, plus it's affordable!

I was just wondering if anyone else scans their negatives and slides, and if so, what do you use and are you satisfied with it?

I use the Scan Dual III and it is wonderful. I highly recommend it. You have to spend over $500 to get a scanner that compares to that one.

I have the Acer Scanwit 2720s. I think it's a great scanner. All of the non-digital images on my web site are scanned from it. It's only 2700 dpi, but I can make 12x18 prints from them. The main drawback in getting a used one is that it's SCSI, not USB.

I'm sure there are better available, but it's the only one I've used so far. Personally I would avoid flatbeds for negs/slides.
