What's new

Seagullls in flight. Practice makes perfect.

Technical, yes, but in my opinion (and perhaps it is just my opinion) not as technical as attention to proper exposure. One can adjust the composition after the shot, change the orientation for example to change the "Feel" of the photograph. But what I perceive as "Technical" errors are bad focus, bad exposure, bad DOF, etc. Again, perhaps it's just my interpretation but that's the way I've always viewed it.

In the first, having the wingtip in shadow hurts it a bit.

In #2 it's to bad your DoF was to shallow to get the far seagull in focus. Lighting and color wise they are poorly separated from the background.

In #3 it's to bad we can only see the back end of the far seagull.

So to me #2 looks to be the closest to being a good image. I can envision an edit to make the seagulls in #2 'pop' better, but you have choosen My Photos Are NOT OK to Edit.

All in all, on a scale of 1-10 in comparison to pro wildlife photos, I give 'em all a 6.

I can live with a 6 since I'm not a pro
Had never really tried birds in flight until about 3 weeks ago , when I caught the hawk coming off the branch.
I was hooked after that.

These images are my third try at it. Oh you bet I can live with a 6.
A 6 from you? On my third try? Yeah, I could be happy with that.

You're free to edit anything of mine. I've seen your work and it rocks.

That's pretty generous. In comparison to a professional shot I was thinking more along the lines of a 4 or 5. I don't see them as being above average when compared to a professional shot.

The highlights are completely blown in 2 & 3 and to a lesser extent in #1. Absolutely no detail in places. Also, as has already been mentioned, a lot of detail in the feathers has been lost in what appears to have been excessive noise reduction. The other thing that really bothers me is the composition, but of course that's interpretation and not technical.

Really?
Looks like I over-did it when I was playing with it.
I offer you........better than your gull shot.
And thank you. I saved the best for last.
1/3 down, 2/3 up..........I hope you see this.

SURPRISE!

Water below the birds, 1/3

The image goes 2/3 up from there. Changed the crop a slightly. Added way too much fill light.
Killed noise reduction. Took some sharpening out too. Lowered exposure that I had added.
Exposure is +10 in lightroom. Was plus 62. Still not finished. I could probably bring exposure back to 0 and get away with it.
But when it goes under glass...........you know what that does.

Better ?

You have my permission to edit anything I put here. Anytime you want.

Try looking at the birds as a box. If you draw a Box around them, they are nearly centered, and just s bit to the left. This feels awkward and unbalanced to me. It feels arbitrary, or sloppy, for lack of a better term.

Stumped....................

#2 and #3 are great, nice shots!

Thank you, Tevo.
I feel they were over-done, on page one. I'm working with them.
Number 1 and 2 have been ruled out.
Number 3 is the shot, but bitter has me stumped. Hell man, this shot just doesn't happen where you can achieve perfection. Got to take what you can get sometimes.
I tried though. I really did.

It aint over fellas. I'm in it to win it. I'll do better. Count on it.

U mad?*

Ok lets tone down on the silly insults/comments flying about and keep to the photos.

Also if you're going to put someone on your ignore list, just do it, no need to have the last jab posts at them telling them.

Silly Overread, this is the internet.

I've seen ONE image from you and it was a JOKE.
See what I mean? Didn't ask a buncha stupid questions I can easily find the answers to myself. " Like how to post an image on here"
That means getting up before sunrise and coming home after dark. Most will drop like flies once they see how trying it can be.......and the disappointments that come with it.
But I won't be one of em.

I'm not finished yet......doubt I ever will be.[/QUOTE

What you don't get is that YOU continue to seek approval on your photos on this website, yet YOU feel superior to others on here trying to do the same. Oh and don't forget what YOU think is A good is OR BAD photo is ONLY your opinion which you're entitled to but you aren't a professional either. Good day..

might want to polish up your quoting skills there, bud

But, composition is technical. Visual artists have been refining composition for over 2000 years now.

Which is why it behooves any of today's visual artists to study composition so they can avoid making the same mistakes made long ago.

behooves... L:lmao:L this word is making me laugh for some reason

I didn't read anything you just wrote Tevo, but my goodness that is a funny picture.
